Power Up with Super Foods

Super foods are plant-derived, unrefined, concentrated foods that are taken in small doses to provide intense levels of nutrients that cannot be compared to any other foods on the planet. Super foods are very important to maintaining a superior diet, but need to be added into your lifestyle slowly and carefully as the “super-power” effect might be a little strong at first, and could provoke diarrhea or constipation.

Below is a list of the super foods we should eat on a daily basis:

Bee Pollen is the male germ seed produced by all flowering plants. Pollen is a rich source of protein, about 23% by weight. It is low in fat and sodium and contains a good source of vitamin A and B (except B-12), calcium, magnesium and zinc. It has a moderate amount of vitamin C as well.

Chlorella is a green algae that is known for its substance named “Chlorella Growth Factor” or GFC. GFC is a nucleic acid substance found within each cell, which enhances the functions of RNA and DNA in the body by promoting growth and healing. RNA and DNA are responsible for producing protein, enzymes and cellular energy. Since RNA and DNA production slows down with age, chlorella has been shown to benefit our bodies by being one of the richest food sources of RNA and DNA. Chlorella is also rich in vitamins B-12 and A, and contains chlorophyll, which has been shown to increase our red blood cell count. This capability can lead to better oxygenation of cells, resulting in improved body cleansing because cell waste is then removed more quickly.

Green Barley comes from barley grass, and like chlorella is high in chlorophyll. This food is rich in magnesium, potassium, beta-carotene and vitamin C. While it is often used to relieve colds and flu, research has demonstrated its effectiveness in treating skin disorders, protecting against radiation, repairing damaged cells and treating chronic diseases of the pancreas.

Spirulina is a blue-green micro algae, a tiny aquatic plant that can be seen only through a microscope. Spirulina is a rich source of protein, about 60% to 70% by weight. This concentrated food contains high amounts of vitamin B-12 and other B vitamins. Also present are biotin, pantothenic acid, folic acid and inositol. The concentrated presence of gamma-linlenic acid (GLA) has been shown to help degenerative diseases like arthritis and heart disease. It is not promoted as a weight loss aid, but people using spirulina before meals report having greater control over their food intake.

Wheatgrass is actually young wheat plants. Wheatgrass is high in chlorophyll, pro-vitamin A, vitamin B, C and E, and is a good source of calcium, potassium, magnesium, selenium and zinc. It also contains some iron.
