One of the most important benefits of massage is stress reduction. Stress is the main cause of aging, both internally and externally and is also the cause of up to 90% of all illnesses. Another benefit of massage comes from touch. The amazing power of touch has been seen in the improvements of pre-term babies who are held on a regular basis and the result is an increase in neurological functioning. Massage and touch also has been shown to be beneficial in the treatment of healing severe burns, high blood pressure, even bloating and cramping associated with premenstrual syndrome. The insurance community has recognized the injury and illness preventive value of massage and many policies allow for some reimbursement of massage. The benefits of massage are clearly documented and so although massage is considered a pampering treatment, it also a necessary treatment.
