Again, a whole story could be written about how to move, finding movers, etc. But since this is about staying organized, we’ll just give you a few more tips.

First of all, if you aren’t lucky enough to have some friends with pick-up trucks to help you with the move, you may need to rent a truck. Be sure to reserve your truck. Everyone will be moving the same Saturday you chose. Or, if you decide to move on Tuesday, everyone else will have had the same idea. It is inevitable. Be sure to rent a truck that will maximize your move - you should not have to make more trips than necessary because you rented a truck that was too small. It is hard to visualize how items will fit, so do your best. When packing , load the furniture in first. Place heavier boxes and items on the bottom, and then stack lighter items on top. Get creative with fitting things on the truck.

When unloading the truck, the best way to stay organized is to place items right in the rooms they will be going to- instead of plopping everything down in the living room. Depending on your time constraints, try to unpack as you unload. Things like clothes can be hung up right away. A bed can be assembled right away. This will eliminate more work later. If you have helpers, such as kids, have them put things away while adults unload.

If there are things you are putting in storage, or giving to family or friends, deliver it to them. Again, just like selling or giving away things before they are packed, why bring anything to a new home that does not belong there. Keep those items at the old place, and instead of a last trip to the house, take a trip to all the places your items are going.

Moving can be a strenuous task. Physically, you must pack and clean up an old place and clean, move to and unpack at a new place. Mentally, there are loose ends to tie up, and new things to start. Using these tips will help keep you organized.
